Abortion - I believe life begins at conception and that abortion is a tragedy.

I believe that Roe vs. Wade created a new legal doctrine that, as a recovering lawyer, just doesn’t make any sense.  It took an issue that should have been left for the people of each state to decide, away from us, and that is wrong.  I believe that abortion is a tragedy because of the emotional trauma it causes the people involved.  It is a tragedy because of the number of potentially great parents who are denied the opportunity to adopt.  And, it is a tragedy because society loses the talents of a human being whose life has ended before those talents could develop.  The way to end abortion is through educating women.  I share Michelle Bachmann’s belief that women are entitled to be fully informed, just as we are before any other medical procedure, so they can make an intelligent decision before ending an unwanted pregnancy.  This should include seeing a sonogram of the life they are carrying.  Children faced with an unwanted pregnancy must discuss this with those they love, and those who love them, before that pregnancy is ended.  This issue goes to the very heart of who we each are.  No one should be required to pay for, have their tax dollars pay for, or play any role in an abortion they feel is morally wrong.
