Citizen Leaders - We need citizen leaders, not career politicians.
I believe Congressmen should read every bill, understand what it means, know how it will be paid for, and post it for their constituents to read before they vote.
Our Founding Fathers never intended that Congress be filled with career politicians. I favor term limits similar to those we had in the Articles of Confederation under which we were governed from 1776 to 1789, Congressmen should serve no more than six years in Congress in any 10 year period. I will vote to end congressional benefits that encourage career politicians such as the franking privilege, automatic pay raises, free medical care in military hospitals, and the pension plan.
Our elected officials should avoid even the appearance of impropriety. When I started this campaign in September of 2009, never having been exposed to the process before, I stated I would not take PAC money before the primary. Since gaining 45% of the delegate vote in May, however, I have been asked by my closest advisors to rethink this position, and I have. Several candidates and people involved with the party agreed that I needed to amend this position; it is reasonable and I will accept PAC money before the primary, with the understanding that nothing is bargained for or promised in return. I require this certification of donors, so there is no misunderstanding.
I will vote in favor of disclosing lobbying information, identifying who requests earmarks in legislation, and removing and/or prosecuting any member of congress convicted of ethics violations including bribery and defrauding the government. Congressman Salazar voted no to these things on May 3, 2006.
